I feel kinda stupid for not figuring this out earlier, but I understand lucy gray, because even if she didn't see what happened in the arena all the things that happened in D12 would've easily proven to her how much sejanus and coriolanus mean to eachother. and then snow gets him killed????? and it's so obvious too????? because coriolanus is the only person sejanus actually trusted???? and loved???? and there's no one else he could've told about the rebel plans except coriolanus???? i would've run, too, because sejanus meant more to coriolanus than lucy gray and she knew it. she didn't know he like, thought of her as a prize and an object and wanted to possess and control her, but she knew he cared for sejanus in a different, deeper way. and he killed him???? she knew he could and would do it to her too, if she ever became a threat to him. and she ran. and now she's free.

I just finished watching TBOSBAS (still haven’t read the book) and one of the questions I was hoping to get answered was why Snow values honesty so much and I think I have an understanding.

This is based solely on my initial thoughts after watching the movie once but I’ll probably make a second post on this based on the book once I have the time to read it. edit: i’ve seen people say the reason is connected to Dr Gaul, either I missed it in the film or it wasn’t shown so I’m not talking about it here.

All the bad things that happen to Coriolanus in the film result from lying and cheating. Clemensia lied about how the report was mostly or entirely by her and got bitten by Gaul’s snakes We don’t know what happens after in the film but we assume nothing good because she never returns. I know in the books she does come back somewhat fine but still, she suffers because of her lies.

Coriolanus’ cheating to save Lucy Gray led to being kicked out the Capitol to be a peacekeeper in District 12, which also caused his family to he evicted. The lying/pretending nothings wrong after he killed Mayfair resulted in him and Lucy having to run away because he would have been killed if caught. Him lying/not telling Lucy about his involvement in Sejanus’ death causes her to run away.

The thing to brings Coriolanus back to the Capitol, to work with Gaul and work up to the position he find him in during the original triology was him telling the truth about Sejanus, even if indirectly. He got the Plinth fortune and everything, all from telling the truth and I fully believe he kept this up throughout his life.
